The Waterfall Project

Olivo Barbeieri has some absolutely stunning shots of the four largest waterfalls in the world. Hard to believe he's not shooting miniatures. Do check it out.

$1 today is worth more than $1 tomorrow

Corporate Finance exam in 10 hours.

I've enjoyed the course quite a bit, actually. Takes me back to studying physics in undergrad.

Good luck everyone. And remember - bonza, bonza, bonza!

De-Stress Week

Apparently November is one of our most stressful months here for the MBA. Numerous group assignments, 12 hour strategy sessions, midterm after midterm.

To help us through this, the MBA office has delightfully set up de-stress week. There were themes for each of the days this week:

Monday - INDULGENCE EXTRAVAGANZA
Tuesday - COMEDY CENTRAL
Wednesday - GAMES DAY
Thursday - BODY & SOUL

(We typically don't have class on Fridays, so that's de-stressing in and of itself.)

Over the week we were offered energizing gym classes, relaxing facial reflexology and satisfying treats - including a chocolate fountain. I just finished getting a chair massage which wasn't nearly long enough. It was a good break from researching jet engines for our Managerial Economics assignment... which I should probably be getting back to.

8 1/2 hours in

I think we're almost done our strategy assignment at this point. Chinese was ordered. We've devolved into jovial swearing. Cannibalization is the word of the day.

Looking forward to Sundowners in half an hour.

Go B3!

Today is our day of Strategy. We started at 9 this morning and have till 9 tonight to hand in a completed report examining the Zara's corporate strategy in comparison to H&M and the Gap.

It's been a good day for our group - we started the day out right with cookies, candies and chips. Right now, we're enjoying pizza we've ordered in and discussing Porter's five forces.

Procrastination

Tonight is the first midterm of our MBA program - Managerial economics.

20% of our final grade, 20 questions, 30 minutes, all multiple choice.

Econ has been one of the most enjoyable classes so far. Our prof has managed to keep it interesting with real world examples and a sense of humor. I feel engaged in the class, so studying has been a breeze. Such a far cry from most of the rote memorization of undergrad.

Oh, and apparently after working in and around IT for years, I don't have the qualifications to waive out of IT for Business Value. Maybe my descriptions of Logical and Physical layouts weren't sharp enough? Maybe I couldn't read someone's mind and invent a random field in an Access relational database? It'd be alright if I felt I legitimately didn't know anything about the subject or totally flopped the exam. I wouldn't know, however, because the program office doesn't release the exact mark or physical exam to confirm.

I hope I can both benefit from and enjoy this class.
