To Catch an ID Thief

I've never really taken time to see the hard hitting exposées of Dateline; but this one was pretty interesting.

General thoughts:

It was a little hard to take some of it seriously with the constant sensationalist and melodramatic tone but at least that made me laugh.

Particular areas that gave me a chuckle:

Étranger Non Plus

Brunch at Czehoski with LBS some admits and alumni yesterday was great! The feeling of the brunch was different compared to the one I attended as a waitlisted student last year. As a waitlist attending admit events last year, I felt like a little bit of an outsider. It's not that anyone made me feel like one - more of a personal distinction. This time was nothing like that. Just a relaxed time with some interesting people.

I had the eggs benedict with brie. I swear that anyone who even caught the slightest glimpse of the hollandaise sauce or the croissant that supported the structure must have gained weight. My heart still isn't beating quite right after eating it.

A matter of vital importance to those who care what I'm doing THIS VERY MOMENT:

I'm twittering.

It makes me sad that I'm nearly all alone doing this.

Please join me.

I care about what you're doing.

I really do.

Pay-As-You-Throw

The mayor of Toronto is proposing garbage fees.

I think this is a brilliant idea, regardless of whether or not anyone thinks it's fair. I do understand that a family of four will definitely produce more garbage than that of a person living alone. People shouldn't be penalized for having a family, blah, blah, blah. This is beside the point.

The ultimate benefactor of hitting people where it hurts (more often than not, their pocketbooks) in this case, is the environment. If people have to start paying for their refuse, they'll start being more conscientious about what they throw away. Paying attention to what we dispose of is better for the environment and less taxing on natural resources. Better for the environment means everyone wins.

Toronto has the added advantage of green bins (for compost) and blue bins (for recycling). There are no proposed fees around those two bins and most everything that we dispose of can go into one or the other.

Toronto's waterfront may have been made from trash, but not everything we produce is that beneficial.
