Beacons of Unity

Pre-Reno flyerWe're sadly past the days of the Luxury Condo and the Loft.

It's a brand new level of ridiculousness the Project.

The boys are back as back as we can be. It was unfortunate we didn't have a blow out to celebrate leaving the Loft, but we're making it up with a Pre-Reno Party at the Project.

RSVP with Moyse or I.

Get 'em While They're Hot!

A site that has compiled flash videos of episodes for some fantastic cartoons.

I'm sure there's some issue of legality somewhere hidden in here. Isn't this like sharing something you taped off of television with your friends though?

meh.

Enjoy.

My Love is for Sale

Anyone want to take me to the Oilers vs Leafs on February 17th?

So far I can only find a single ticket for around $380. It's right behind the Oilers bench, but I don't think I can justify spending that much while unemployed.

Hockey in Edmonton is in such contrast to Toronto. It's sad for the real fans in Toronto when most of the tickets are taken by corporate suits that probably won't even attend the game. Edmonton is much more of a hockey city. It's going to be next to impossible to catch a game this year during annual my Christmas return given that they're only releasing 750 tickets per game at Rexall. I generally disapprove of bandwagon fans, but it's great that we have a city that is willing to support the team now. Let's hope this revenue will translate into some success for the team and the city so we don't lose any more jackasses with wives that don't like Edmonton.

One is the Loneliest

Well, looks like I'm the sole applicant blogger on the London Business School MBA Blog. Hopefully it won't stay that way for too long, I know there are a number of quality applicant blogs out there.

Back in Toronto and looking for gainful employment. I'm actually hoping to find something that would allow me to see the early stages of scientific ventures. Something in Venture Capital, Tech Transfer or a recent start-up. I think it would fit well with my future career plans. Apparently the Ontario government has recently injected a bolus of funds specifically into Tech Transfer recently. At very least I know that they're hiring and I should be able to compete for some sort of position.

An unintended side effect of not being employed: I'm hooked on Entourage, EUReKA and House.

The Summer of George

The courier delivered my offer for the MBA2009 program the other day. It was fantastic to see the offer letter and the proof of acceptance. Sort of sucks to see the price tag though. And where's the nice folder that all the people from the MBA2008 class received?

It would have been nice to start school this year, I'm pretty excited to have a year without the worry of which school I'll be attending. A bunch of people have asked me how I'm going to spend my next year. Here's a brain dump of ideas.

Friends and Family - I'm tackling some of this right now. I should do more though. Then again, I think people would rather come visit me when I'm in London.

Work! - This is the major weight on my mind right now. It really shouldn't press as hard as it does but I'll worry until the paycheques come in regularly. I'm in a position where I can choose something I want to do. Something fun. Something I'll enjoy. I've researched and fired off some interest e-mails to a few different places already but I'd be interested in suggestions if anyone has any.

Unleash some creativity - When I was little, some of my favorites of all the things my parents enrolled me in were classes at the Edmonton Art Gallery. I've been meaning to get my art on for the past few years. It would be great to break loose and do something purely creative again. I was thinking of some sculpting classes, I have been known to demonstrate some talent in that discipline.

Research more school stuff - The preliminary work was already put into the application, now it's time for some more concrete stuff. Scholarships, summer internship, shadowing and second year project, exchange, career trajectory. There are a bunch of things to think about between now and when school starts.

Reclaim my health - It's really so much easier not going to the gym and much more enjoyable eating whatever I want. In the spirit of the year though, a more svelte Wincent will be moving to London next year. After seeing my brother's physical transformation after steadily working out over the past year, well, frankly I'm jealous.

¿Habla Español? - Poorly-pronounced conversational Cantonese, basic Mandarin and French, Vietnamese food. I think some basic Spanish would compliment the hodgepodge of sounds I can make. I think it would make things easier for the exit language requirement. My Chinese read/write ability is non existent and another language with sound-letter corresponance to sounds would give me another choice of Language to pursue.
